Stage 1:

Kindergarten is the first year of formal schooling. The NSW Board of Studies syllabus is written with sequential programs from Kindergarten through to Year 6. While girls in these years study all areas of the curriculum, focus is on developing basic skills in literacy and numeracy.

How Students Learn
Using a variety of quality literature, reading skills are taught using phonics and sight word recognition. Mathematics skills are taught using concrete materials, gradually building up to a conceptual understanding of processes.

Topics Studied
Topics studied in Science and Technology and Human Society and Its Environment are often integrated with subjects such as Visual Arts, Music or French.

A ‘Group Investigations’ program also takes place in these early years, where the girls work in small groups exploring particular topics.
