Term 1 is always a lively time for Public Speaking at SCEGGS, with interschool competitions, Inter-House events and the start of Speech lessons all underway, and 2026 has been no exception.
At the Lions Youth of the Year competition Pippa Brenner (Year 12) won the Public Speaking component, an outstanding achievement! Pippa was also received the National Scholarship Award for Excellence at the annual Australian Speech Communication Association (ASCA) Award Ceremony, while Old Girl Helaina Travassaros (2025) was awarded the Gina Pioro Director’s Award for Outstanding Performance for her consistently high exam marks throughout secondary school and a Centre Medal. At the ASCA, a number of girls also received Centre Medals, Studio Medals and Studio Achievement Medals.
Back at school, Inter-House Public Speaking concluded for Years 7-8 and 11-12, with Bianca Elias placing first in the Junior division.
Congratulations to all girls involved – this is an excellent reflection of the strength of Speech across the School.
