SCEGGS students from Years 5–12 have demonstrated impressive creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills through this year’s Tournament of Minds (TOM) Regional Competition.
Over six weeks, our students worked in teams to develop innovative solutions to challenging Long-Term Challenges before presenting their ideas at UNSW. Primary students tackled STEM and Language Literature challenges, creating a science fiction world in which the Earth had stopped spinning and developing an original radio drama play series exploring the transition to high school together with the friendship dramas and relationships that are part of growing up. The Language Literature team was awarded an Honour.
In the Secondary Division, four teams explored challenges ranging from the economic and ethical issues surrounding fast fashion to creative escape routes for iconic figures from Escher-inspired artworks. Team Red received an Honour in the Social Science Challenge, while Team Green achieved First Place in the Arts Challenge.
Congratulations to all our TOM participants on their outstanding teamwork, persistence and ingenuity. Team Green will now progress to the NSW State Finals, and we wish them the very best!
