Grace was an outstanding student in the early days of SCEGGS who enjoyed learning and participated in a host of activities at school including music, tennis and boating. She went on to become one of our first female graduates from Sydney University, was herself awarded a scholarship to study at Oxford and was involved in the Women’s Sports Association at Sydney University.

The Grace Newbery Scholarships have been established to increase the diversity of the SCEGGS student body. Open to students entering Year 7, this scholarship is designed to assist an enthusiastic learner who is also a good all round student, involved in a range of co-curricular activities who can contribute to the life of the school and the diversity of the student population.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a sound academic background along with a passion for activities outside the classroom which could include the creative and performing arts, debating, public speaking, leadership or sport.

The scholarship is means tested and covers 50% of tuition costs. It aims to provide the opportunity for a student to attend SCEGGS whose family would not otherwise be able to afford to send them to the school without this assistance. It will be awarded on the basis of application and interview. Applicants will also be required to sit the ACER Scholarship Test.

Applications for 2025 are now open and will close on Friday 2 February 2024.
