There is one class in each of these year levels, with Kindergarten being the first year of formal schooling. While the girls study all areas of the curriculum, the focus is on developing basic skills in literacy and numeracy.
How Students Learn
Using a variety of quality literature, reading skills are taught using phonics and sight work recognition. Using an increasing number of skills, the girls learn the importance of writing as a way of communicating. Mathematics skills are taught using concrete materials, gradually building up to a conceptual understanding of processes. Topics studied in History, Geography, Science and Technology are often integrated, and also taught within subjects such as Visual Arts, Music or French.
